Tommy Franzén

Born in Sweden, Tommy began dancing at the age of 11 and has put the weight of this training into becoming as versatile dancer as possible. After dancing professionally in Sweden, he won a scholarship to The Urdang Academy, London, and then danced internationally ranging from musicals and hip-hop dance theatre to music videos and films. Recent performance credits include “Mamma Mia! – The Movie”, The Olympics in Beijing, and TV advertisements for companies including Pepsi Max, Nike/Footlocker and Sandisk. He has just finished a UK and European tour with the "Blaze" and is currently working on the creation of ZooNation's new show "Some Like It Hip Hop". Tommy was a finalist in BBC's “So You Think You Can Dance” and was recently shortlisted for a National Dance Award Critic's Circle for Outstanding Male Performance (Modern).

.identiti.co was formed in 2011 by four graduates of mapdance (2009, Chichester University) postgraduate performance company. We came together this year to form .identiti.co through a shared love of movement, improvisation and desire to further stretch our physical limitations and emotional boundaries. Feeding off each others energy and creativity, we aim to test the depths of movement, offer the unexpected and give the audience an opportunity to find their own connections to dance. Our company name identiti.co makes reference to the development of our first major collaboration, through which we have begun to mold together as one discovering our own unique style and finding our identity as an emerging company in the dance world.

Taciturn formed in 2006 to enable the dancers to share skills and ideas, as well as to showcase the talents of local artists. Their aim is to create vibrant and diverse works that will have wide appeal and inspire young dancers.

Taciturn have performed at the Leap Festival in Liverpool, The Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester and as part of the British Dance Edition Fringe event 2008, organised by local artists. Taciturn have performed repeatedly at Cloud Dance Festival, and we are thrilled to welcome them back for their fifth festival!

Through my work since graduating from Laban in 2004 I have been exploring movement generated from personal stories, presenting them in public pedestrian areas. I seek to generate physically challenging work that uncovers the unique dialogue between the mind, our environment and our bodies.

Commisions include Troupe for Nike iD made and performed in Niketown Oxford Circus, Creative Partnerships, Shoreditch Festival and Step It Out - Circus Space's BA show at Watch This Space at The National Theatre.

Udifydance Company

Udifydance Company is an all male contemporary dance company and an associate artist at The Point, Eastleigh and Resident Company at The University of Winchester. The company was founded in 2008 by Artistic Directors Chay Burrows and Christopher Reynolds

Udify is excited to be receiving support from Brighton Dome as well as mentoring in 2011 from Hofesh Shechter.

Richard Bermange has been working primarily as a dancer since graduating from Central School of Ballet in 2005. He has worked mostly with classical ballet companies all over the world; this has been key to develping his choreographic style. Richard has been creating work for both student and professional performances for around 10 years, though his work couldn’t be described as strictly classical or neo-classical he often works 'en pointe' and draws reference to the classical technique. He enjoys working with a variety of dancers from varying dance backgrounds and often approched new work with a collaborative aspect.

Just Us Dance Theatre

Artistic Director Joseph Yvan Toonga created Just Us Dance Theatre along with his close friend Ricardo Da Silva in 2007. The company was formed upon the love both artists shared for contemporary dance and physical theatre and other social forms of dance. With influences from Hip Hop, Kuduro (South African National Dance), contemporary dance and spoken word the movement vocabulary created gives the company its unique expressive style. The company aims to make dance more accessible by using a movement language people understand. Just Us also engages people through choreography by using narratives that people can relate to.

EDDance

Founded in 2009 by Edd Mitton, EDDance is a London-based company of dance artists devoted to making dance work for performance which is beautiful, intelligent and accessible. Under the name of Edd Mitton and the Why Not Collective, the company gave its first public performance in July 2009 at Jackson’s Lane Theatre as part of Cloud Dance Festival. Since then, Edd has been working on a variety of projects, including solo and pop-up performances, often in non-traditional theatre spaces, as well as working closely alongside live musicians. The company continues to seek inspiration from a wide variety of sources, and is keen to hear from artists of any discipline who would be interested in collaborating.

James Finnemore upon graduation joined the Hofesh Shechter company touring internationaly Uprising/In Your Rooms. He went on to work with Carte Blanche performing works by Club Guy and Roni, Hofesh Shechter and La Intrusa Dansa. In 2010 James returned to the Hofesh Shechter Company to tour Political Mother. James's choreography has included performances at Edinburgh Fringe, The Robin Howard Theatre and Try in House, Norway.

Gerrard Martin Dance

Gerrard Martin has toured nationally with Phoenix Dance Company, as well as dancing with Ballet Black, Union Dance Company, Aletta Collins Dance Company and Sakoba Dance Theatre. Apart from modelling and film engagements, Gerrard has also danced for the National Theatre (Mappa Mundi), English National Opera (The Faery Queen), The Royal Opera (Don Giovanni) and with many commercial artists or bands, including Lionel Ritchie, Misteeq, Jamelia, Eternal, Shola Ama and Shaggy.

Gerrard is an Associate Artist at UK Foundation for Dance.

Diciembre Dance Group

Diciembre Dance Group was founded in 2008 by Lucía Piquero to bring together artists from different backgrounds and disciplines with the aim of using dance as a tool for expression. Musician and composer Alberto García has been a close collaborator from the beginning of the project. Since then, DDG has grown to include co-directors Sara Accettura and Lisa Maiello, and a range of dancers. Choreographies by Lucía Piquero have been performed in different festivals around the UK and in Spain. DDG has also started to present work from other choreographers, such as co-director Sara Accettura and Andrea Santato.

Upon graduating, choreographer of Exquisite Corpse | Dance Theatre Anthony was offered positions as apprentice dancer with both The Jasmin Vardimon Company and Surface Area Dance Theatre, choosing Surface Area Dance Theatre which would allow close contact with Creative Director Nicole Vivien Watson.

When completing his apprentice position Anthony was offered the position as Associate Artist at both Dance City and The Arc Stockton. This association with the regional dance and theatre houses has provided opportunities to undergo a choreographic development period, within which Anthony is still working.

Devaraj Thimmaiah

Devaraj joined Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company in 2003 for Transtep including choreography by Lisa Torun, Fillip Van Huffel and Rashpal Singh Bansal. Since then he has performed in seven productions, touring nationally and internationally. Recently he danced for the world premiere of Bruise Blood with SJDC as part of Dance Umbrella Festival. He has also been part of site-specific footage for the BBC, SJDC's performance of Four Square in 'Diwali on the Square' festival at Trafalgar Square, and a collaboration with City Contemporary Dance (Hong Kong) in 2006. Devaraj joined Tavaziva Dance in December 2009 for the company's first full-length production 'Wild Dog' and toured in spring 2010. Devaraj also teaches and works with dancers in India and Italy as part of dance development programme.

Dom Czapski trained at the IFP Rick Odums in Paris. After some freelance and company work in France, Dom studied at Laban. In 2009, he joined the Van Huynh Company with which he has toured internationally. He assisted in the restaging of Collision in 2010 for Dance United, and in Dam Van Huynh’s recent residency in Hong Kong. Dom has since made a short work entitled Five for Adugna Community Dance Theatre in Addis Ababa, commissioned by Dance United UK. He is currently working in London.

Mark Smith is a deaf choreographer (Sadler’s Wells’ ‘Shoes’ and Wilton Music Hall’s ‘Iolanthe’). Mark is a founder and artistic director of a new all-male deaf dance company called Deaf Men Dancing, who was formed in August 2010. Mark Smith uses a fusion of different styles of dance incorporated with sign-language to create an expressionist work for his company Deaf Men Dancing. The dancers and collaborators are Anthony Snowden, Joseph Fletcher, Kevin Jewell and Mark Smith.

DMD was invited to perform at DanceEast’s 1st Anniversary Gala, E4’s ‘Battlefront’, London 2012's Deaf Day, DaDa Disability & Deaf Arts' 'Hands-On' and Candoco's 20th Anniversary Cabaret. Mark Smith received commission from WithoutWalls to create outdoor performance of Alive! with DMD and Rachel Gadsden, visual artist. Recently DMD performed Alive! at the Brighton Festival and will soon perform Alive! at Stockton International Riverside Festival, Greenwich + Docklands Festival's Dancing City, Liberty Festival, Minifest Festival, Lakes Alive, Bristol’s Habour Festival and Manchester’s Xtrax Festival.

Slanjayvah Danza

Slanjayvah Danza, formed in 2004 by Artistic Director and choreographer Jenni Wren, is a contemporary dance theatre company which produces high quality, professional creative works.

The choreographies and direction of Jenni Wren are what drive Slanjayvah Danza to create unique and innovative productions. Inspirationally, Wren fuses a variety of dance styles, and calls on a diversity of alternative artistic practices, that help convey narratives any audience can relate to. In particular, Slanjayvah Danza uses the integration of choreography and digital media for both film and live stage productions.

Ross Cooper

Described by Article 19 as "one of Scotland's most popular choreographers", Ross Cooper trained at Ecole de Etoile de Rudra Bejart, Switzerland with Azari Plissetsky & Maurice Bejart then continued training at NSCD and the Merce Cunningham Dance Foundation. Ross has danced with The Royal Opera Ballet, Rudra Bejart Ballet, PACT Ballet, David Massingham Dance, AMP, Tokyo Ballet Japan & on various projects.

Ross has worked on material by William Forsythe, Merce Cunningham, Ohad Naharin, Peter Darrell CBE, Michael Clark, Kim Brandstrup, Hofesh Shechter, Jan-Bas Bollen, Maurice Bejart, David Bintley, John Cranko, Choo San Goh, Matthew Bourne, Sir Peter Wright, Rui Lopes Graca and Henry Oguike to name but a few.
